Posted: 21 Jul 2012 01:01 PM PDT

( From http://www.rxpgnews.com ) Thiruvananthapuram, July 21 - It took the death by food poisoning of a 21-year-old to shake Kerala's health authorities out of their slumber on the lack of basic hygiene in many eateries across the state. In the past few days, some 50 establishments of varying sizes have been shut across the state for not following minimum standards. All the 20,000 eateries across the state were shut Saturday to protest the health department's raids. On July 10, 21-year-old Sachin Mathew, a hotel management graduate, bought three 'shawarmas' from a restaurant located close to the Congress party headquarters here before boarding a bus for Bangalore. En route to Bangalore that night, he rang up his mother and said he was unwell. From the next day on there was no contact with the parents and on July 14 they got a call from a lodge in Bangalore where he was staying that their son had died. Also on July 10, the son of thespian Thilakan and his family also had 'shawarmas' from the same restaurant and they too fell ill and had to be admitted to hospital. A day later the health authorities sealed the restaurant. The health authorities in Kochi have banned the sale of shawarmas for a week. Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association president Sudheesh Kumar told IANS that sales in hotels have dropped following the incident. The Association had called Saturday's stir. To the best of my knowledge this is the first incident where a life has been lost due to food poisoning. We have begun a massive awareness drive among our members on the do's and don'ts. At this point of time we do not wish to blame anyone, said Kumar, who runs a plush seaside resort overlooking the Kovalam beach. The Food Safety Department - of the state government has also opened a helpline and responses have started pouring in from the general public pointing to improper hygiene being maintained at eateries. The authorities have asked the public to ensure that they keep the copy of...

( From http://www.rxpgnews.com ) New Delhi, July 21 - The humble flute, which in Hindu mythology was played by Lord Krishna to charm the maidens, birds and animals of Vrindavan and Mathura, is leading a new healing therapy called Bansi Yoga to beat lifestyle stress. Bansi Yoga, created by the S. Vyasa Yoga University using a combination of traditional yoga, breathing exercises and flute melody, will get the official stamp of approval in the capital at the third World Flute Festival, Raasrang 2012, Aug 9-12. The festival will be presented by the Ministry of Culture and the Krishna Prerna Foundation with support from flute maestro Hariprasad Chaurasia. A team of experts will demonstrate the yoga and discuss its healing powers in 12 workshops over four days at Hotel Ashok in the capital, Arun Buddhiraja, the founder of the Krishna Prerna Foundation, said. Bansi Yoga is a combination of yoga and flute used as a deep relexation technique in 40 minutes of cyclic meditations. The practitioner moves his limbs in a cyclic pattern and the flute, played as an accompaniment, allows him to relax. The relaxation induced is equivalent to eight hours of sleep, Buddhiraja told IANS. The flute was a symbol of love, peace and water, he said. Explaining the dynamics of the Bansi Yoga, Buddhiraja said in some postures, the practitioner stands straight with his hands alongside at right angles. The practitioner then moves his hand in a cyclic manner to the music of the flute. The cyclic motion fans from the hand to the fingers and to the shoulders. The meditation is followed by chanting of the words Ukara, Akara, Makara - - the essence of the word Omkara - to create magnetic sound resonance in the body, Buddhiraja said. It is a physiological and psychological clean-up, he said. The Bansi Yoga courses are designed for two groups of people - corporate executives and the common people. ( From http://www.rxpgnews.com ) New Delhi, July 20- The union government Friday told the Supreme Court that it has set up a panel of three doctors to examine the possibility of surgically separating the conjoined twin sisters from Bihar. The apex court bench of Justice K.S. Radhakrishnan and Justice Dipak Misra was told that the three-member panel, comprising of Dr. A.K. Bishoi and Dr. Minu Vajpayee from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences - and Dr. Mukul Verma from Apollo Hospital, will visit the 16-year-old conjoined twins, Saba and Farah, in Bihar and give its opinion on the possibility of separating them surgically. While directing the listing of the matter July 30, the apex court directed the Bihar government to extend full support to the doctors' panel. The Supreme Court had July 16 directed the union health ministry to set up a panel of doctors from the AIIMS and Apollo to examine the possibility of surgically separating the conjoined girls. Attorney General G. Vahanvati is assisting the court in the matter. The court's direction came on a public interest litigation by Aarushi Dhasmana, a student of Symbiosis Law School in Pune, who said she wanted to help Saba and Farah by exploring the possibility of separating them surgically. An earlier report by the doctors said the girls would have to undergo a series of surgeries before two could be separated. However, the report said that in any case only one the two conjoined sisters would survive. Dhasmana in her petition has said she came to know about the pain and agony of the twins and their parents via internet. Parents of Saba and Farah have made fervent appeals for mercy killing of their daughters if all options to separate them fail at all levels. However, Dhasmana's petition has said that in case surgical procedures were not possible for separating the twins, the state be directed to permit the twins to exercise their natural right to die with the consent of their parents with utmost...
